Aerodynamic socks engineered for drag reduction
Pro Team Storm Aero Socks are aerodynamic cycling socks built for riders who care about every detail. Made in Italy with premium technical yarns, they reduce aerodynamic drag around the lower leg — the area where drag has the strongest impact on your CdA.
When every watt matters, the right aero socks can save up to 5-10 watts at 45 km/h compared to standard cycling socks. As a result, aero socks have gradually become a core part of World Tour kits, just like aero helmets and skinsuits.
Made in Italy technical fabrics
The advanced knit structure combines two functional zones:
- Aerodynamic upper section: ribbed technical fabric that disrupts airflow, reduces turbulent wake and improves efficiency at high speeds
- Ultra-breathable foot panel: lightweight yarns with UPF 50+, moisture management and optimised ventilation for long efforts in hot conditions
Moreover, our aero socks are produced entirely in Italy by knitting mills specialised in technical fabrics for professional cycling — in fact, the same suppliers behind several World Tour teams.
Performance: how many watts do aero socks save?
At 45 km/h, aerodynamic cycling socks reduce drag by 3 to 10 watts compared to standard socks, depending on speed, leg shape and wind angle. For example, for a cyclist averaging 35 km/h, this translates to roughly 2-3% less energy at the same speed — in other words, a marginal gain that compounds over long distances.
Specifically, our Aero Socks are tuned for the laminar-to-turbulent flow transition zone, where the technical rib structure generates controlled micro-vortices that keep airflow attached to the leg. As a result, the pressure wake is reduced and drag is lowered.
UCI compliance and sock height
Aero Socks height respects UCI regulations for road competitions. Specifically, the rules limit maximum sock height to the midpoint between ankle and knee. Therefore, our aerodynamic cycling socks are sized to be UCI-compliant while keeping the maximum allowed aero gain. Check the official UCI regulations.
Fit and sizing
Aero Socks are available in four sizes (S, M, L, XL) to fit EU 36 to 47.
Tip: for racing, choose the tighter size — indeed, the sock must fit smoothly with no bunching to maximise the aero effect. On the other hand, for training or long rides, the standard size offers more comfort.
FAQ – Aero Socks
Do aero socks really save watts?
Yes. In fact, wind tunnel tests confirm savings of 3 to 15 watts depending on speed (higher speeds = higher gain). However, at typical group ride speeds (35-40 km/h), realistic savings are 3-5 watts.
Are Out Of Peloton Aero Socks UCI legal?
Yes. The height is designed to comply with UCI regulations for road and time trial competitions.
What’s the difference between Storm Aero Socks and Vortexx RTR?
Storm is optimised for hot conditions with maximum breathability. On the other hand, Vortexx RTR features a more aggressive turbulator structure built for pure time trial performance.
How long do aero socks last?
With proper care, they keep their aerodynamic properties for over 50 washes. In addition, the premium Italian yarn resists stretching and holds its race-day shape over time.
Care instructions
To preserve the technical fabric structure and aerodynamic properties of your aero socks, follow these care guidelines:
- Preferably hand wash
- If machine washing, wash cold at 30°C
- Wash the garment inside out
- Wash with similar colours
- Do not bleach
- Do not tumble dry
- Do not spin dry
- Do not iron
- Do not dry clean
- Do not use fabric softener
- Do not leave the garment wet after washing
